Global Investment Banking Firm seeks Fixed Income Trader to trade taxable preferred securities. The position is located in Westchester/Fairfield.
Requirements

Candidates for this position must have at least 3 years credible experience within fixed income trading, with the primary focus on the credit markets, specifically taxable preferred securities. The skill and desire to analyze fixed income credit markets in the context of changing macroeconomic and industry conditions in order to generate value added investment ideas for fixed income should also be present. A fast-paced and intense environment requires an aptitude for analyzing and interpreting complex information from multiple sources in a timely manner.

Duties include:

* Must possess strong trading skills, be proficient in, and understand the dynamics of the fixed income credit markets and its various products.
* Deliver quality investment ideas and market strategy to Senior Management, Sales Team and HNW Salespeople. Ensure best execution, liaising with internal traders and outside counterparties.
* Timely and accurate execution of fixed income trades, including, with a main focus on but not limited to, taxable straight preferred securities.
* Daily management of risk with full accountability for both risk and P&L within personal book.
* Ability to hedge risk using treasuries, swaps and various other methods.
* Development of the business through communication, cooperation and support of Sales Team and Senior Management, who are responsible for fostering, maintaining, and prospecting client relationships.
* Act in accordance with all the relevant legal and regulatory requirements; identify and report issues and risks, including any compliance or suitability issues.
* Work with Controllers/Value Review on mark-to-market positions.
* Determine / Analyze any system breaks and reconcile with operations.

Description

FAMCO (Fiduciary Asset Management), a wholly owned subsidiary of Piper Jaffray Companies, is currenlty seeking a Bond and SMA Trader for our St Louis, MO office. FAMCO manages a broad array of traditional and alternative equity and fixed income strategies for institutional investors. The Bond and SMA Trader will be responsible, under direction, for executing purchases and sales of bonds authorized by Portfolio Managers.

Responsibilities


* Show offerings/bids
* Execute Bond Trades via TradeWeb, Market Axess, Bloomberg or phone.
* Confirm Trade details and provide allocations.
* Monitor executions and portfolio positions.
* Assist with settlement issues.
* Compile Best Execution data and reports.
* Report to Head of Desk
* Run Reports for Trading Desk and PM’s
* Input Trading Tickets
* Analyze market, trading and commission data
* Extensive use of Bloomberg & Microsoft Excel

Requirements

* Bachelors Degree in business or equivalent work experience.
* Broad-based general knowledge of all markets.
* Bond trading experience a plus.
* Equities or SMA trading a plus.
* Client-focused and dedicated to responsiveness.
* Demonstrated ability to handle a number of simultaneous transactions.
* Ability to manage deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
* Strong individual contributor (self-starter, self-driven, strong work ethic).
* Knowledge of settlement procedures.
* Experience using order management systems.
* Knowledge of Advent products a plus (Apx and Moxy).
* Experience using Bloomberg.

As a Trader you will:
- Use a variety of complex tools and databases such as Bloomberg, Blackrock Solutions, Salomon Yield Book, Barra Cosmos, and Lehman Point, to identify critical data for decision-making.
- Complete risk analyses for senior management that evaluate potential exposure related to issuer, sector, quality, term and maturity.
- Negotiate trades with a variety of securities dealers and act as liaison to outside bond vendors.
- Invest cash flows across markets and act as portfolio manager with a lower level of discretion.
- Act as a critical investment decision-maker when the portfolio manager is off the desk.
- Provide direction on compliance, regulatory rules, and investment guidelines.
- Interpret and communicate to portfolio managers market forces impacting bond performance and portfolio benchmarks.
- Recommend trades based on strong understanding of relative value.
- Respond effectively to bond desk inquiries pertaining to trading and pricing.
- Analyze data collected by less-tenured traders, and, with oversight, develop trading and portfolio strategies.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or economics; MBA and/or CFA preferred.
- Minimum of five years' general business experience, with at least four years of fixed income experience.
- Good knowledge of derivatives and other complex instruments.
- Strong PC skills with spreadsheet, database and other applicable software packages.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills.
