Description

A Portland area firm is in need of a Commodities Trader for the wheat future market which opens at 7:30 am and closes at 11:15.

This individual will be responsible for trading in agency and non-agency business in support of the Assistant General Manager who is currently in charge of wheat, barley, and malt trading. Additional responsibilities will include:

* Supplying competitive price and valuable information from the US and Canada to companies in Tokyo and Singapore and worldwide stations.
* Co-working with the merchandising assistant.
* Working for the logistics of wheat, barley, and malt with the logistics manager and the logistics coordinator for the container business.
* Maximizing synergy with affiliated companies.
* Expanding a new business area in the Agency and Non-Agency division such as wheat and barley by container and track.

This position would best suit someone who has an aggressive and inquiring mind. Candidates must have good math skills and strong skills in converting metrics to standard measurement and vice versa. Demonstrated experience in commodities trading is required. Experience in futures trading/logistics is a plus.

Position Summary

Learn to manage Alliant energy's near-term (one day to three years forward) energy and capacity portfolio composed of generating, native load, and physical and financial wholesale power market transactions. Trades bulk power in the wholesale power market.

Accountabilities:

Using established procedures and methodologies negotiate structured energy, capacity, and transmission contracts within prescribed limits needed to meet Alliant Energy's native load and other contractual requirements.

With direction, develop a detailed next-day supply/demand position combining current and anticipated weather conditions, native load requirements, generation commitment and availability, and bulk power purchase and sale transactions for us by real-time generation dispatch and trading personnel.

With direction, perform price discovery, monitors forward market pricing, and actively responds to changes in forward market pricing as part of on-going management of the energy and capacity portfolio.

Participate in maintaining relationships with counter parties in the bulk power market including other utilities, independent power producers, and power marketing companies

With direction, obtain, analyze and communicate bulk power market intelligence including variables that influence pricing, availability, and reliability of power sources.

Participate in the implementation and optimization generator maintenance scheduling.

Record relevant information for completed energy, capacity, and transmission transactions in established record-keeping systems.

Monitor new products, services and counter parties available in the bulk power market; utilizes new products, services and counter parties when beneficial for Alliant Energy to do so.

With direction, assist in executing load management programs such as interruptible customer load and direct load control as warranted by current system conditions.

Requirements for Senior Trader / Analyst - Markets:

* Graduate degree in business, public policy, finance, economics or similar discipline and at least three to four years of relevant work experience.
* Extensive experience (3-4) in analysis of broad financial market developments.
* Ability to analyze complex market issues, make decisions and respond under pressure.
* A strong sense of initiative.
* Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects at once under time pressure.
* Ability to work productively on a high-performance team and as an independent analyst.
* Knowledge of fixed income markets, particularly the Treasury market a plus.
* Experience with or detailed knowledge of trading operations in fixed income markets is highly desirable.
* Experience with Bloomberg and Reuters, Excel and Access preferred.

In some cases, positions require access to confidential supervisory information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents who are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization, and U.S. permanent residents who have applied for naturalization within six months of being eligible to do so.

Summary of Trader / Analyst - Foreign Exchange :

The Foreign Exchange (FX) staff seeks a Trader/Analyst. The FX staff fulfills a range of analytical and trading responsibilities in order to implement the foreign exchange policy decisions of the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Treasury Department and to monitor and analyze developments in global foreign exchange and capital markets. The FX staff also carries out a range of customer-related foreign exchange transactions and monitors industry trends.

Responsibilities of Trader / Analyst - Foreign Exchange includes:

* Monitor, analyze and report on financial market developments:
o Track intraday and longer-term global asset price movements
o Interface with market participants and other areas of the Bank to obtain context for asset price movements
o Analyze findings and identify themes relevant to the development of monetary policy and foreign exchange policy and understanding of financial stability conditions
o Prepare detailed written analyses and present oral briefings on market developments to officials in the Federal Reserve System and U.S. Treasury Department on a daily, weekly, FOMC-cycle and ad hoc basis.
* Assume responsibility for specialist coverage of a specific region or asset class

# Plan for and execute transactions in foreign exchange markets on behalf of the U.S. monetary authorities, U.S. government and foreign official customers
# Participate in and/or manage projects to enhance the Markets Group’s ability to conduct operations and analysis.

Requirements

Requirements for Trader / Analyst - Foreign Exchange includes:

* Master’s level degree in business, finance, economics, policy or a related area;
* Two to five years of work experience in foreign exchange is required;
* Demonstrated analytical skills, including substantial knowledge of financial instruments (particularly foreign exchange and fixed income mathematics) and financial market structure, macroeconomic theory and monetary policy;
* Ability to analyze complex market issues, make decisions and respond under pressure;
* High aptitude for performing operational activities with attention to detail and analytical duties under time pressure;
* Proven ability to provide concise, articulate and insightful analysis in written and verbal form;
* Ability to work productively both independently and in a high-performance team;
* Overtime and early shifts are required.

This position requires access to FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents who are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization, and U.S. permanent residents who have applied for naturalization within six months of being eligible to do so.
