Description
This position includes the intra-day optimization of Mirant's West Region Assets and optimization trading throughout the Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC). Job functions may consist of generation optimization, bi-lateral and ancillary services purchases and sales. This function requires knowledge of internal and industry software systems. Other responsibilities include the design, development and maintenance of forms, logs, and operating procedures which will be used as tools in support of energy trading and dispatch.
1. Responsible for optimizing the portfolio in real time to capture market changes and unit operational issues.
2. Develop and maintain excellent customer/counterparty relationships (both internal and external customers).
3. Acquire a complete understanding of the computer systems and programs in place necessary for managing the trading, scheduling and bidding of units into the various markets.
4. Work with peers to develop procedures, forms, and logs associated with trading and transportation of energy products.
5. Perform hourly trading and arbitrage within the WECC.
- The candidate needs to have a solid background in analysis and an
understanding of profit and loss calculation.
- The candidate should have computer-related experience in the
Windows environment and have knowledge of various windows based
programs.
- The candidate must be able to work in a fast paced and stressful
environment, where organizational skills are essential in handling a
multitude of tasks.
- Flexible working hours are required in this 24 hour 7 day a week shift
position. Shift coverage for training, vacationing or sick scheduling
associates may be required, as company needs dictate.
- The candidate must have superior oral and written communication skills
and the ability to effectively interact with various levels of internal and
external customers of the organization.
Education:
- Bachelors degree or extensive experience in the energy industry
- Preferred: Bachelors degree
