Description

Identify, create, and optimize commercial operation opportunities in the electricity bulk market.

Responsibilities:

* Develop and implement trading strategies that support the direction provided by the Portfolio Director and Regional Vice President. Develop and implement pricing strategies and action plans.
* Execute delivery and risk mitigation strategies. Execute strategies developed to enhance asset value.
* Examine and execute regional arbitrage. Analyze and react to current market conditions through bidding, trading, and use of hedging strategies to maximize profits in accordance with company risk management guidelines.
* Interact regularly with other Commercial Operations traders to identify opportunities and devise strategies.
* Work with other desk staff to effectively maximize organization’s position and strategy in the designated market, including participation in pro forma development and analysis.
* Partner with other business units and/or departments to identify and facilitate business process improvements.
* Interact with market participants and electricity brokers to develop, negotiate, and execute opportunistic business transactions.
* Identify surpluses and needs for capacity and energy.
* Monitor variables that influence pricing, availability, and reliability of power sources.
* Maintain understanding of marketplace rules and procedures, and their affect in asset value and trading strategies.
* Ensure compliance with NRG’s Corporate Code of Conduct, NRG’s North American Trading Policy, Risk Management Policies and Procedures, Commercial Operation’s Statement of Professional Ethics, and Sarbanes-Oxley reporting requirements.
* Support ongoing and special initiatives within Commercial Operations and business development.

Requirements

Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, finance, or other relevant degree with five or more years of power trading experience. MBA is preferred.
* Solid understanding of the bulk power market strategies, pricing, hedging and power flow strategies on the transmission grid.
* Extensive knowledge of trading tools and indices, marginal and average pricing, and generation commitment techniques.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills; sound conceptual thinking.
* Must have ability to make profitable business decisions quickly, to identify and communicate market opportunities to co-workers, and to understand all financial reports.
* Demonstrated self-starter.
