General Purpose
Negotiates sales and purchases of wholesale power, financial instruments, and emissions credits consistent with the strategic direction of the Company. Identifies sales/purchase opportunities and aggressively negotiates energy sales and purchases with other utilities/organizations and/or financial institutions.
Develops professional relationships with wholesale power marketers, traders, brokers, and the financial community to enhance the Company’s ability to profitably grow the wholesale power business.
Responsibilities of this position include the following:
* Purchase and sell natural gas as required to meet physical requirements and financial risk management targets as defined within PacifiCorp.
* Assure reliable, flexible, and economic natural gas supply to PacifiCorp's natural gas-fired generating units.
* Facilitate natural gas generation planning, pre-scheduling and dispatch decisions, and add input relative to natural gas costs.
* Act as the subject matter expert in this discipline and provide guidance to associate and career level gas traders.
* Manage pipeline schedules and nominations.
* Manage pipeline imbalances to ensure the most flexible and reliable supply is at least cost.
* Manage natural gas price risk by introducing short-term supply demand fundamentals into forward trading decisions.
* Maintain reliable natural gas supply to PacifiCorp generation plants, through the management of PacifiCorp's supply, transportation and storage contracts as they affect physical balances available to PacifiCorp generation.
* Settle and reconcile physical natural gas transactions to actual natural gas flow.
* Lead the development of the Company risk management strategy.
Requirements
Requirements for this position include the following:
* Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Marketing or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
* A minimum of five years experience in natural gas scheduling or trading.
* Knowledge of or experience in the electric or gas utility industry.
* Analysis skills in order to understand market conditions and to identify sales and purchase opportunities.
* Selling skills in order to identify, negotiate, and close on sales and purchase opportunities.
* Communication and interpersonal skills to develop industry contacts, establish relationships, influence others’ positions and negotiate outcomes.
* Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools to support trading activity.
* Understanding of financial modeling, risk assessment, commodity management, electricity and natural gas trading practices.
Preferences:
* Risk management experience.
* Financial trading experience.
* Scheduling experience on Questar, Kern River, and/or TransCanada GTN pipeline systems.
* Trading experience on Questar, Kern River, and/or TransCanada GTN pipeline systems.
* Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and practices, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
* Will consider candidates with less than five years of experience; compensation will be commensurate with appropriate grade level.
